Discovery Channel has a hit in its new show Gold Rush: Alaska, which delivered over 2.9 million viewers with its premiere episode last Friday night. Gold Rush: Alaska was the #1 primetime cable program among key demographics that night, and marked Discovery Channel’s highest delivery among viewers aged 25-54 since Shark Week last August. Gold Rush: Alaska was also the top program in all television networks among men 25-54. It had the best rated series premiere on the network since Deadliest Catch in 2005.
So what’s Gold Rush: Alaska about? In the face of the economic meltdown, six men risk everything to strike it rich mining for gold in the wilds of Alaska. Todd Hoffman of Sandy, Oregon, along with his father Jack, lead a group of greenhorn miners in search of the American dream and a new frontier.
