Discovery Channel’s ‘Gold Rush: Alaska’ Stakes Its Claim on Friday Nights

Discovery Channel has a hit in its new show Gold Rush: Alaska, which delivered over 2.9 million viewers with its premiere episode last Friday night. Gold Rush: Alaska was the #1 primetime cable program among key demographics that night, and marked Discovery Channel’s highest delivery among viewers aged 25-54 since Shark Week last August. Gold Rush: Alaska was also the top program in all television networks among men 25-54. It had the best rated series premiere on the network since Deadliest Catch in 2005.

‘The Hollywood Reporter’ Puts the Spotlight on Discovery Channel’s 2011 Schedule

Discovery's 'Desert Car Kings'

We’re excited about our upcoming programming on the Discovery Channel, and it’s always nice to hear that others are too. Today, The Hollywood Reporter wrote an article about Discovery’s 2011 schedule, which includes 15 returning and 25 new series, the most in the network’s history. Some of the new series include:

  • Desert Car Kings, about the McClures, an Arizona family that searches for and restores classic vehicles;
  • Treasure Nation, about an archaeologist and anthropologist duo who travel the country to find overlooked artifacts, from antique weaponry and ancient Mayan artifacts to claims of Biblical relics in suburban backyards;
  • Kidnap & Rescue, which explores the dangerous and harrowing world of rescuing kidnap victims, and
  • Flying Wild Alaska, about a family-run airline that travels to the most remote parts of Alaska

‘Creating Change’: See What Nonprofits & Volunteers Had to Say

After a marathon of creativity on Tuesday, our Discovery Impact: Creating Change teams had the chance to present their work to the 40 incredible nonprofits we were able to help on Wednesday at One Discovery Place.

A big thank you goes out to Erin Dieterich and Jennifer Button (featured at the end of the video below) for making Creating Change a reality and having such an impact on so many employees and organizations!
