Discovery Channel Takes to the Alaskan Skies in ‘Flying Wild Alaska’

January 14, 2011 | by gweiswasser

It’s all in the family on the new Discovery Channel series Flying Wild Alaska, premiering tonight at 9pm ET/PT.  The series follows the Twetos, the first family of the Alaskan skies, as they operate Era Alaska, an airline that transports everyday necessities to one of the most remote and extreme parts of America. With no freeway system for hundreds of miles, Era Alaska is the lifeline for the isolated rural inhabitants of the Bering Sea coastline. From champion snow dogs bound for the Iditarod to medicine for sick children, the goods that the pilots ship on any given day are crucial to daily life. (In one episode, they even have to deliver a toilet seat!)

Get to know the intrepid Tweto Family &mash; Jim, his wife Ferno, and daughters Ariel and Ayla — and read more about the show here. And check out a sneak peek below!

We love following the Tweto family on the Discovery Channel. Jim is a great pilot and has a dry sense of humor. The interplay between Jim and Ferno can be downright funny. Ariel is an absolute hoot not to mention pretty as a peach. We hope this show continues to produce new episodes in 2011 and beyond. We never miss it and would be disappointed if it doesn’t continue..

An amazing TV program. It’s great to see caring people that love their jobs serving their communities. Kudos to Discovery for bringing this program to TV!
My hope is that Discovery will continue this program for fall 2011.

Gosto muito do programa. Muito legal e impressionante a dedicação que a familia dedica em um lugar tão inóspito. Temperaturas ultra baixas mas ânimo sempre em alta. Destaque para Ariel, um charme a parte. Parabéns.
