Have you ever watched TLC‘s What Not to Wear and wondered what it’s like to be in the shoes of the person being made over? On tomorrow night’s episode of What Not to Wear, Stacy and Clinton meet a local DC mom blogger, Amanda of Parenting by Dummies, and give her the chance to spend a week in NYC buying a new $5,000 wardrobe and getting a hair and makeup makeover. (I’m a DC mom blogger myself, and I can’t wait to see the episode! I am hoping to pick up some tips to apply to my own tired wardrobe.)

Tune in Tuesday at 9pm ET/PT to watch Amanda’s experience on the show. Also, Amanda’s hosting a Twitter party during the episode — follow her at @thenagainphoto and RSVP at her site.

American Treasures' Anthropologist Dr. Kirk French

Do you have any historical artifacts sitting in your basement or attic? Have you ever wondered if they are worth anything? Tonight at 10pm ET/PT, Discovery Channel premieres American Treasures, a new series in which two professors hit the road to meet with people who’ve called them to find out whether they are sitting on a national treasure or a worthless dust-gatherer.

Dr. Kirk French, a professor of anthropology at Penn State, and Dr. Jason De Leon, a professor of anthropology at the University of Michigan, are used to doing ethnographic and archeological research across remote parts of the U.S. and Mexico. But how will they handle working out of their truck as they confirm — or dash — the hopes of these owners?

Animal Planet Takes Viewers to the ‘World’s Deadliest Towns’

February 18, 2011 | by gweiswasser

World's Deadliest Towns“Premiere Week” continues here on the Discovery Blog today with World’s Deadliest Towns, a three-part series premiering Monday, February 21,  at 8pm ET/PT on Animal Planet.

Hosted by animal trainer and behavior expert Dave Salmoni, World’s Deadliest Towns takes viewers to places where people and animals remain locked in mortal conflict. From man-eating tigers and homicidal elephants to hippos from hell, Salmoni investigates wildlife war zones where wild animals are pushing back and people are eaten for breakfast.

In the clip below, Salmoni tags along as farmers try to get hippos — which are potentially very dangerous to humans — off of their crops.

Get behind-the-scenes commentary about the three episodes — elephants, hippos and tigers — and check out Dave Salmoni’s photos from his travels to these deadly spots. And then tune in to Animal Planet for all of the danger on Monday night.

Discovery Channel Delivers Armchair Adventure with ‘Man vs. Wild’ & ‘Out of the Wild’ Tonight!

Man vs. Wild GetGlue StickersI generally consider myself adventurous — a world traveler, scuba diver and roller coaster fanatic. However, there are some things that make me happy to be an armchair adventurer, like Discovery Channel’s Man vs. Wild and Out of the Wild: Venezuela.

Tonight, Discovery Channel is serving up a health dose of real-world survival, as Bear Grylls takes to Arizona’s Sky Islands to demonstrate how to survive in scorching deserts and on freezing mountains. Following Man vs. Wild (Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT) is a new season of Out of the Wild, as nine ordinary people are dropped off in a remote corner of Venezuela with only the most basic supplies. Their mission? To travel across 70 brutal miles of uncharted terrain back to civilization. The living room couch sounds like a good location to join both of these adventures (check out previews of tonight’s episodes below).

Discovery Channel has also launched its newest set of stickers on GetGlue in conjunction with Man vs. Wild. Check-in while watching tonight (and each Thursday) to earn your own Man vs. Wild merit badges and brag to your friends that you’ve earned “parasite removal” or “advanced frostbite” distinction.
