Seattle. It’s known for coffee, its signature climate and…CatchCon — the annual fan fest celebrating Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch and its dedicated viewers.
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending my first CatchCon (now in its third year) with well over 1,000 Deadliest Catch fans from across the U.S. and beyond. Our guests began lining up as early as 4am at Bell Harbor in anticipation of the doors opening at 12pm. As the morning progressed, the line along Alaskan Way continued to grow — with fans cheering as they caught a glimpse of their favorite captains and crews arriving for the day’s festivities.
Once inside, attendees heard from the captains and later from the crews in the always popular Crew Strikes Back panel. Fans also had a chance to try their hand at a variety of crab fishing inspired games, to insert themselves into this year’s ad campaign, to tour the F/V Wizard and F/V Northwestern and, finally, to meet the Deadliest Catch stars individually.
Discovery Channel streamed the event live to fans at CatchConNow.com, and video highlights are available on the site. Two of my favorite moments? The ultimate fan who can’t contain her excitement at nabbing a rag from the Northwestern and Jake Anderson tearing up recounting taking the helm of Sig’s boat as his proud mom watched.
Deadliest Catch returns for its seventh season on Tuesday, April 12 at 9pm ET/PT and GetGlue users can also check in each Tuesday night to earn new stickers featuring their favorite captains.
