Today, Sanford Health, WebMD and Discovery Education announced the launch of fit 4 the classroom, a new initiative to combat childhood obesity and promote children’s health. Through the use of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, the unique program helps students to learn about how to make positive, healthy lifestyle choices.
With childhood obesity more than tripling in the last 30 years, fit 4 the classroom emphasizes four pillars – mood, move, food and recharge – to promote a more holistic approach to children’s overall health and well-being. fit 4 the classroom provides educators with interactive and cross-curricular lesson plans in order to teach the interconnectedness of nutrition, exercise, sleep and emotional well-being.
Educators can also visit fit4theclassroom.com to learn how they can enter to win a $5,000 prize and $5,000 in funding for their school to extend programs that benefit student health and wellness education.
