I have always been fascinated by history. As a kid, I preferred historical fiction to sci-fi and other genres of books and, as an adult, I have become even more aware of the value of understanding your family roots. So, it’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of Who Do You Think You Are? The Emmy-nominated series is back with a new season beginning tonight on TLC at 9pm ET/PT.

In tonight’s episode (which, of course, I had to watch as soon as I could), actress Cynthia Nixon explores the paternal side of her family tree…and uncovers an ancestor who spent some time in the big house (not the Big Apple). Watch a clip from the season premiere below, follow along on Twitter using the #WDYTYA hashtag as executive producers Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky live tweet tonight, and stay tuned for new episodes each Wednesday on TLC featuring Valerie Bertinelli, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kelsey Grammer and Rachel McAdams.
