Discovery Communications is proud to be joining A Billion + Change, a national campaign to mobilize billions of dollars in skills-based and probono volunteer services to help build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to effectively meet community needs. Discovery is one of more than 50 companies that have already pledged over $1.2 billion in service to nonprofits by starting or expanding their own skills-based volunteer programs.
Today, nonprofit, corporate and government leaders gathered on Capitol Hill at an event hosted by Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), honorary chairman of A Billion + Change, to celebrate these companies and to encourage others to join the campaign. The goal is to get 500 companies nationwide to sign on to the pledge, unleashing billions in service, talent and expertise to support the work of community organizations around the country and the world.
As part of its commitment to A Billion + Change, Discovery will be holding its probono Creating Change marathon next week for the second year in a row. Creating Change pairs area nonprofit organizations with Discovery marketing, creative, communications, web design, event planning and social media teams for a 12-hour marathon of consulting, brainstorming, and creativity. Check this blog next Wednesday, November 9 and Thursday, November 10 for more on the projects that Discovery will be working on, and follow @DiscoveryComm and the hashtag #ourimpact on Twitter.
