I can’t be the only one who has a huge soft spot for adorable kittens, right? Ever since my family adopted my cat, Tiger, who we found through Petfinder, I’ve been so excited to spread the word about Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. Five of my friends have also adopted rescued cats and couldn’t be happier with their new furry buddies! Cats can make great companions and during the month of June, Petfinder is encouraging animal lovers everywhere to consider cat adoption by supporting Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month.

Petfinder LogoToday, there are more than 145,000 felines available through Petfinder’s member shelters and rescue groups that need good homes. While Petfinder is encouraging would-be owners to consider adoption this month, owning a pet is a big responsibility. So, even if you can’t take on your own furry friend, there are other ways you can help support Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month:

  • Tweet, re-Tweet and repeat the following (or your own brilliant message): June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. Save a life: Adopt a cat w/ @Petfinder! http://www.petfinder.com
  • Contact your local shelter or rescue group (you can search for groups near you online) and ask if they have a donation wish list or other flyer they’d like to you to post around your office or neighborhood. They may be holding special events for Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month which you can help promote.
  • Share an adoptable cat or a Petfinder cat adoption Happy Tail on your blog, Facebook page or Twitter account.
  • Sign up as a foster parent or shelter volunteer, and then tell your friends how great it is. Contact your local shelter or rescue group to get started, or register in Petfinder’s volunteer database.

You can find more tips on how you can lend a paw during Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month on Petfinder.com!

TLC’s ‘Obese and Expecting’ & ‘Birth Moms’ Show Different Sides of Pregnancy

May 17, 2012 | by kdelmonico

Obese and ExpectingWhile pregnancy is often an exciting and happy time, tonight, TLC is giving us a glimpse into the more complicated side of expecting a baby. Obese and Expecting (at 9pm ET/PT tonight) highlights the risks associated with being severely overweight while carrying a baby. In a truly gut-wrenching scene, the doctors attempt to give a 350-pound woman an epidural as she goes into labor. The doctors spend over 45 minutes trying to find a precise spot to inject the epidural, one example of the way obesity can complicate the beautiful milestone of birth.

Following Obese and Expecting ( at 10pm ET/PT), the documentary Birth Moms takes us through the emotional rollercoaster that awaits expectant moms who are planning to give their children up for adoption at the end of nine months. A raw look at the realities of unplanned pregnancy, Birth Moms profiles Kandice, a-23 year-old mom of two who is considering adoption. Check out a sneak peek:
