Discovery Communications takes its commitment to satisfying curiosity seriously. That goal — sharing the wonder of our world — doesn’t end with its viewers, but it extends to its employees as well. This was the first year I was able to participate in Discovery’s famed Kids Day, and it lived up to its expectations. Instead of just another day of first grade, my 7 year-old twins came to work with me today, where they experienced the following:
- A presentation from Discovery Channel‘s Shark Advisor, Andy DeHart, who also happens to be the Director of Fishes & Aquatic Vertebrates at the National Aquarium Institute
- A presentation from Bill Simpkins, Director of Education at the National Aquarium
- Several arts projects
- Outdoor exercise in the afternoon, including an obstacle course
- Two yummy meals
Not bad for a single day! I was impressed with Discovery’s commitment to making it a positive, enriching, and fun experience for the hundreds of kids who participated. From my perspective, it was a day that I won’t forget anytime soon, nor, I suspect, will my daughters.
