For the past thirteen years, Discovery has sought out the brightest young minds in grades 5-8 to solve everyday problems with the power of science…and the search is on again. Today, Discovery Education and 3M announced the opening of the 14th annual Young Scientist Challenge, asking students to create a short video explaining the science behind their solution to an everyday problem in one of these three categories:
- The Way We Move
- The Way We Keep Ourselves Healthy
- The Way We Make a Difference
Evaluated on their creativity, scientific knowledge, persuasiveness and overall presentation, 10 finalists will be selected to participate in a summer mentorship with a 3M scientist. During the program, each student-scientist will be challenged to create an innovation that solves a problem in society, with each finalist receiving a trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, to compete in the final challenge in October 2012.
So, reach out to that budding scientist or educator you know, and help Discovery Education and 3M find the best and the brightest! For more information on the Challenge, don’t forget to swing by www.youngscientistchallenge.com.
