Discovery Celebrates ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’

April 25, 2014 | by akowalczyk

Yesterday, Discovery celebrated the youngest of its ranks with, “Kids Day 2014: Life is Sweet,” in honor of Take Your Child to Work Day.

In Discovery offices across the country, kids were treated to a fun-filled day of curious fun, incorporating science, art and culinary delights. At our headquarters in Silver Spring, hundreds of little ones explored the scientific world with various experiments and then broke off for lunches and office shadowing with their parents. The kids finished the day deliciously with a special cupcake decorating class with sisters Katherine and Sophie from TLC’s DC Cupcakes! Discovery kids in our Nashville, LA, Miami and New York offices enjoyed similar events.

Check out a few fun shots from the day below – we’re already looking forward to next year!

TLC’s ‘DC Cupcakes’ Has Us Thinking Pink

March 25, 2011 | by aharris

Georgetown Cupcake - Pink RibbonMany of us have been touched by breast cancer — through family, friends or personal battles. On tonight’s DC Cupcakes (10pm ET/PT on TLC), Sophie and Katherine do their part as the team at Georgetown Cupcake only can — by making a giant pink bra out of cupcakes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The sisters and head baker Andres also compete in a three-way bake-off to create the pink cupcakes that will go with it.

Additionally, now through October 31, 2011, Georgetown Cupcake will donate 100% of the purchase price of its special Pink Ribbon Cupcake to Susan G. Komen for the Cure with a guaranteed minimum payment of $50,000. These “Pink Ribbon” Cupcakes will be available by pre-order, walk-in purchase, and via national shipping.

‘DC Cupcakes’ Returns to TLC Tonight

February 25, 2011 | by gweiswasser

Are you in the mood for a sweet treat? Tonight at 10pm ET/PT on TLC, DC Cupcakes returns for a second delicious season. The series follows sisters Sophie and Katherine, the founders of Georgetown Cupcake, as they operate several busy cupcakeries and meet daunting deadlines for clients of all types.

This season, they will bake 10,000 cupcakes to be shipped to Afghanistan for our troops, create a giant pink bra out of cupcakes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, cater a cupcake birthday party for two gorillas at the National Zoo and make a couture wedding dress out of cupcakes for DC Fashion Week. Phew.

To learn more about the show, like DC Cupcakes on Facebook, find out more about Sophie and Katherine, and take a peek at Season 2:

If this post has gotten you in the mood for cupcakes, you can order Georgetown Cupcakes to be delivered to your house or, if you’re feeling ambitious, make some at home with this TLC guide to cupcake recipes.

Announcing the Winner of the ‘DC Cupcakes’ Sister Blog Contest: MsKianaC

Dineen Looks Over Baby Kiana

Daneen Looks Over Baby Kiana

With the premiere of TLC’s DC Cupcakes, we asked you to share your favorite memory of you and your sister together in our Sister Blog Contest. Katherine and Sophie from Georgetown Cupcake have a special sisterly bond, and it was exciting to see that many of you do as well. We received quite a few sweet, silly and inspiring stories in response…and today we are excited to announce the winner!

Congratulations to Kiana, a first-time blogger who submitted a touching story about her sister Daneen. In her story, Kiana explains Daneen’s struggles with Rett syndrome, a disorder of the nervous system that leads to developmental reversals. The bond that Kiana and big sister Daneen share is inspiring and brought tears to both Katherine and Sophie’s eyes (as it surely will for many of you).

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their memories and stories about their sisters with us and the world, and congrats again to Kiana for winning a $500 VISA gift card — good for a great for a present for (or maybe even a visit to) Daneen!

DC Cupcakes will be back for a second season, but you can catch up on the first season with a special marathon on September 11 at 1pm ET/PT on TLC!
