The seas are charted, the crew is prepped – are you ready to head out for a new season of Deadliest Catch?

Premiering tonight at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel, the ninth season of Deadliest Catch promises a whole new level of adventure, with higher stakes, greater danger and all-new ways for fans to join the crew.

This season, the seven skippers and their crew are fighting through hell and back again in search of King and Opilio crab, but as they venture into the high seas, they begin to realize many of the most violent storms come from within. Facing 40-foot waves, hurricane force winds, heavy-machinery, the youngest members of the crew fight for fame and fortune, while the captains wage war for crab supremacy – who will come out on top?

Get ready for all the action with The Bait, a new pre-show featuring your favorite captains dishing on fishing, boat life and what to expect on that night’s episode of Deadliest Catch. During the 8pm ET premiere, Tweet along with the captains and crew tagging @DeadliestCatch and using #DeadliestCatch, and you may see your Tweet on TV (our own “crew” has settled in at our broadcast center to look for their favorites live tonight).

And, if you haven’t already, make sure to sign up for the new Deadliest Catch Fantasy Game, where you pick your captain, boat and crew each week and could win a Discovery Adventures trip of a lifetime.

Our Catch countdown has begun..has yours? Watch a sneak peek below, and we’ll see you on the seas tonight!

Howdy from SXSW!

March 8, 2013 | by kdelmonico

SXSW 2013 LogoBefore I get flack for the headline, I must confirm that I’m an Okie (born and raised), so I still reserve the right to use an occasional “howdy” or “y’all” periodically…as in when I’ve just landed in Austin for SXSW Interactive!

Saturday is Discovery Communications’ big day – with a panel, Animal Planet’s Cats Live Here! party with friends from the CatVidFest & our own Jackson Galaxy and The Captains’ Concert at the iconic Stubb’s. While there’s much to do before then (like test an exclusive, cringeworthy preview Deadliest Catch fans will get of the upcoming season during tomorrow’s Twitter for Tough Guys panel), I can’t help but look forward to everything else that comes with SXSW: insightful panels and keynotes, meaningful opportunities to catch up with business partners, great people watching, and food and music to die for.

We’ll be keeping you updated on all of our SXSW activities on Twitter, so make sure to follow @DiscoveryComm, @Discovery, @DeadliestCatch & @AnimalPlanet for the latest. We hope to see many of you around Austin, and chime in below with your impressions of this year’s Festival!

‘Deadliest Catch’ Captains Set Course for SXSW 2013

February 25, 2013 | by aharris

The Captains' ConcertMarch is fast approaching, which means it’s almost time for SXSW! While I’ve attended before and HowStuffWorks’ Josh Clark & Chuck Bryant from Stuff You Should Know have podcasted from Interactive, this year’s going to be a bit different — as Captains Sig Hansen, Johnathan Hillstrand and Keith Colburn of Deadliest Catch will be making their SXSW debut.

I have a feeling that Austin is the Captains’ type of town, and I hope you’ll join us for two special Catch events:

Deadliest Catch‘s Twitter for Tough Guys
Ever wonder what Sig, Johnathan and Keith really think about social media and how Discovery Channel has woven social into the show? This panel will feature the three Captains talking with our own Josh Weinberg about just that. Think CatchCon meets SXSW.
Saturday, March 9 | 12:30-1:30pm |Hyatt Regency Austin | Texas Ballroom 1-4
Add it to your SXSWi schedule!

Deadliest Catch Presents: The Captains’ Concert
Cap off your Saturday night at SXSW Interactive with a night of music, mingling and indie rock at this special, FREE concert featuring Black Pistol Fire, Quiet Company and The Tontons — hosted by your favorite Captains!
Saturday, March 9 | 8pm | Stubb’s
RSVP on Eventbrite

If you’ll be at SXSW, make sure to say hi on Twitter (@TheNuwanda) and perhaps in person!

‘Booze’ and Mike Rowe. Need We Say More?

September 18, 2012 | by aharris

How Booze Built America with Mike RoweMike Rowe has completed 300 dirty jobs for Dirty Jobs. It’s about time someone got the man a drink (aside from the Captains of Deadliest Catch). One of Discovery Channel‘s most well-known personalities and voices is hosting a new three-part series, How Booze Built America, beginning tomorrow night at 10pm ET/PT. The special will look at America’s history with liquor — from Johnny Appleseed’s tie to hard cider to the role booze played in the O.K. Corral.

So grab a beer, cocktail or mocktail and join Mike Rowe for How Booze Built America Wednesday nights through October 3! Until then, check out the Drinker’s Dictionary below with our very own Prince Eugene. (I promise the video will help that make sense.)
