‘Gold Rush’ Returns to Discovery on October 28

This just in: Season 2 of Discovery Channel‘s hit series Gold Rush will kick off on Friday, October 28 at 9pm ET/PT.

Gold Rush features a group of down-on-their-luck men, in the face of an economic meltdown, who risk everything to try to strike it rich mining for gold in Alaska. Inspired by his father Jack, Todd Hoffman leads the miners – now with one season under their belts – to finish what they started and get to the bottom of the glory hole at Porcupine Creek and find gold. The second season kicks off with a special - “The Off-Season” – at 8PM ET/PT, where fans will find out about all of the hard work the Hoffmans put in between mining seasons to make sure they hit the mother lode this time around. Then at 9PM ET/PT, “Twist of Fate” officially kicks off the new season.

Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery & Science Channel Celebrate January Ratings

2011 is off to a good start for Discovery’s U.S. networks, as Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery and Science Channel mark January with new ratings records for new and returning series.

Discovery Channel is enjoying its second highest January ever among Men 25-54. The success is thanks to new series Gold Rush: Alaska, Flying Wild Alaska and Sons of Guns, as well as viewer favorites American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior and Dirty Jobs. American Chopper: Senior vs Junior in particular had a great month, with last Monday’s 9pm ET/PT premiere enjoying the highest ratings for the series since 2004, with 3.16 million viewers.

ID LogoInvestigation Discovery, similarly, had its best January on record last month, as it celebrated its third anniversary with double digit year-over-year growth. ID also cracked the top 25 of all ad-supported cable for the month, ranking #22 on Mondays, #23 on Thursdays, and #23 on Sundays among W25-54 in prime delivery. ID will soon launch five new original series in the span of four weeks, including Nothing Personal (which will be hosted by Steve Schirrippa of The Sopranos), exploring the sinister world of contract killings.

Science Channel HD LogoFinally, Science Channel scored a big win in January with its new series An Idiot Abroad. Fans have fallen in love with Karl Pilkington (and his round head) and, since its debut on January 22, 4.3 million viewers have watched the series, making An Idiot Abroad the network’s highest rated series ever.

‘Gold Rush’ Returns to Discovery Channel with New Eps, GetGlue Stickers

Gold Rush's Todd GetGlue StickerDiscovery Channel’s Gold Rush: Alaska has become a Friday night hit, and the series returns tonight with the first of seven all-new episodes following the Porcupine Creek miners as they brave the Alaskan wilderness in search of gold and a way to support their families.

To coincide with the series’ return, we are also unveiling seven custom Gold Rush stickers on entertainment-focused social network GetGlue. Simply tune in and check in on GetGlue each Friday night and see which virtual stickers you unlock.

In tonight’s episode, the team of rookie gold miners finally attempts to run dirt through their complete wash plant, but a visit from the Department of Fish and Game reveals a violation, jeopardizing their entire mining operation. And, Todd faces every parent’s worst fear, as his daughter fights for her life and must be rushed to the hospital. Discovery Channel’s ‘Gold Rush: Alaska’ Stakes Its Claim on Friday Nights

Discovery Channel has a hit in its new show Gold Rush: Alaska, which delivered over 2.9 million viewers with its premiere episode last Friday night. Gold Rush: Alaska was the #1 primetime cable program among key demographics that night, and marked Discovery Channel’s highest delivery among viewers aged 25-54 since Shark Week last August. Gold Rush: Alaska was also the top program in all television networks among men 25-54. It had the best rated series premiere on the network since Deadliest Catch in 2005.
