‘Kidnap & Rescue’ Looks at Abduction Through Eyes of Rescuers

January 28, 2011 | by aharris

Unfortunately, kidnappings and abductions have become more frequent here in the U.S. and abroad, with only a few of the many tragic stories becoming headline news. In Kidnap & Rescue, Discovery Channel gives us a look at the world of kidnapping through the eyes of the rescuers who go where no one else can and risk violent reprisals to reclaim innocent victims.

Criminal gangs are estimated to make up to $500 million a year in ransom payments from kidnapping, with more than 70% of kidnappings resolved by ransom payments. For some, though, a rescue is a last resort. Whether it’s a high-profile executive being held for ransom, a child sold overseas or a DEA agent taken by a vengeful cartel, the hope of every victim often lies in the hands of the few with the training and dedication to bring them home.

Kidnap & Rescue, premiering Saturday at 10pm ET/PT,  takes you into a shadowy world of astonishing cruelty and terrifying extremes. Regardless of the mission, the motivation is the same: to get everyone back alive. Watch a preview below, meet the people that risk it all to save innocent victims and learn tips to keep you and your family safe.
