Celebrate Halloween with Science & ‘Oddities’

October 29, 2012 | by aharris

Oddities Syringe and TeethAs those of us in the northeast part of the U.S. are huddled indoors waiting for Hurricane Sandy (aka Frankenstorm) to pass, we look toward Halloween (perhaps its just that bowl of candy that could turn into storm rations). And what better way to spend the holiday than with Mike, Evan, Audra and everyone from Oddities and Oddities: San Francisco?

Science has an all-day marathon of both Oddities franchises planned beginning at 9am ET, so indulge your curiosity about the unusual and rare (and meet personalities like the beloved Edgar — vintage clip below)!

Meet the Most Pup-ular Dog in America

August 24, 2012 | by kdelmonico

Who doesn’t love Pound Puppies? He would probably kill me for saying this, but when my fiance’s family moved out of his childhood home, the main item he was interested in rescuing from the trash heap was his beloved childhood stuffed Pound Puppy. The Pound Puppy safely survived the move and now lives with us in Washington — very cosmopolitan.

You can spend your Saturday with the Pound Puppies, as The Dog Days of Summer continue on The Hub. Starting at 9am ET, a Pound Puppies marathon will have a special guest star — the winner of The Dog Days of Summer’s Pup-ularity Contest! The winner (who will received a trip to LA for four and a $5,000 donation in their name to the Petfinder Foundation) will be revealed during the marathon, and let’s just say he/she is a very special pup.

Happy ‘Firefly’ Fourth!

July 3, 2012 | by kdelmonico

Apple pie, BBQ and Firefly: nothing says “America” like a good old-fashioned space Western. As we head into the July 4th holiday here at Discovery, it wouldn’t be a holiday if we didn’t have some killer marathons for you, and Science is not going to disappoint. For us space geeks, what better way to celebrate Independence Day than with an all-day Firefly marathon? Starting at 8am ET, you can catch all 14 episodes and sufficiently feed your inner Browncoat.

Next week, Science will descend upon Comic-Con for a nerd-tastic weekend, where we all plan to majorly geek out over Firefly reunion panel on Friday, July 13, with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and the rest of the Serenity crew. Yes, you read that correctly. You get a day off tomorrow AND a Firefly reunion is happening next week — is this a great country, or what?
