Animal Planet & Science Are NY-Bound for Comic Con

October 13, 2011 | by aharris

Discovery’s networks are no strangers to Cons – CatchCon, San Diego Comic-Con… not to mention those criminals on Investigation Discovery. So it’s logical that beginning tomorrow visitors to New York Comic-Con will be treated to panels and more courtesy of Animal Planet and Science.

Finding Bigfoot TEamOn Friday, the cast of Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot (Bobo, Cliff, Matt and Ranae) will be joined by 30 Rock‘s Judah Friedlander for an hour-long panel to talk about the hit series and the network’s Halloween special, Finding Bigfoot: Birth of a Legend. The action starts at 6:30pm, but only the first 100 will receive a special Bigfoot t-shirt!

Science LogoThe following day, Science is bringing Comic Con attendees a chance to meet Rod Roddenberry (son of famed Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry) and the team from Obscura Antiques featured in the quirky and addictive Oddities. Rod’s autograph session starts at 10:30am in the Autograph Pavillon and Evan, Mike and Ryan from Oddities will be there at 4:15pm. However, the can’t miss portion of the day is the network’s 1:15pm panel featuring Trek Nation, Oddities and Ridley Scott’s Prophets of Science Fiction (with Dr. Michio Kaku, to boot!)

Not in New York? Don’t worry. You can follow Animal Planet and Science Channel on Facebook and Twitter for updates:

Science Channel’s ‘Oddities’ Returns with New Episodes, Outrageous Items

April 7, 2011 | by aharris

Oddities Syringe and TeethDiscovery Channel‘s Auction Kings introduces viewers to collectibles of all types — from classic cars to modern day memorabilia. However, the team at Gallery 63 certainly has never seen a Tibetan trumpet made of a human femur or a two-headed cat. Luckily, the folks at Obscura Anitiques and Oddiites in New York City have got us covered.

Science Channel‘s Oddities is back with a second season Saturday at 10pm ET/PT as Obscura’s Mike and Evan serve up a combination of unique collectibles and even more unique patrons. Check out this clip from this week’s premiere, as Jonathan Davis (of the band Korn) shops for a vintage home embalming kit. No joke.

If you’d like more insight into the world of Oddities, join Mike from Obscura on Twitter at @ObscuraAntiques at 10pm ET on April 9 as you tune into the premiere on Science Channel.

The Odd World of ‘Oddities’ on Discovery Channel

Ever gone shopping for monkey skulls? A jar of toenail clippings? Maybe a straitjacket? Well, we haven’t either, but luckily there’s a store in New York City that caters to people who are interested in that kind of thing.

Obscura Antiques & Oddities on Manhattan’s Lower East Side specializes in “medical artifacts,” or rare, one-of-a-kind, spooky and even downright gross items that come from flea markets, auctions, antique shows, other collectors — anywhere and everywhere. Tomorrow night (November 4) at 9:30pm ET/PT, Discovery Channel will premiere Oddities, a series chronicling the people who work at Obscura, along with the strange things that can be found there. (Tomorrow’s episode features a mummified cat — yuck.)

Learn more about the series, and check out a photo tour of the store and some video clips from the series. And be sure to check out this unique customer:
