Investigation Discovery’s Paula Zahn to Moderate White House Panel on Domestic Violence

On Wednesday, April 18, Vice President Joe Biden will host an event in support of the White House’s initiative to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). As a part of tomorrow’s event, Investigation Discovery’s Paula Zahn will moderate a panel discussion with community leaders and advocates about the importance of VAWA and the issues that our country continues to face in combating domestic violence. The White House will broadcast the event live online at 11am ET on Wednesday, extending the reach and impact.

In addition, Discovery Education is working with White House and U.S. Department of Justice advisors to broadcast a live webinar to students across the country about preventing teen dating violence. The webinar, a part of the Discovery Education LIVE digital series that brings current events to the classroom, will take place at 1pm ET on Wednesday. Lynn Rosenthal (White House Advisor on Violence Against Women), Kathleen Gless (Victim Justice Program Specialist for the U.S. Department of Justice), and Latinisha Lewis (Grant Program Specialist in the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women) will address high school students across the country to discuss warning signs and the ways they can protect themselves against teen dating violence. Discovery Education Commemorates 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with Screenings, Classroom Resources

Discovery Education will engage educators and students beyond the walls of the classroom with learning experiences covering the events of 9/11 and exploring the innovations and challenges associated with rebuilding a sacred site. Honoring the victims, survivors and all those affected by 9/11, Discovery Education, in collaboration with the September 11th Families’ Association and the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, will provide free educator resources, host previews of Discovery Channel & Science‘s Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero with panel discussions, and update Discovery Education streaming service with 9/11-focused resources.

Celebrating the communities, the stories and the resiliency represented by Americans most impacted by the tragic events of that day, Discovery Education will host four events in cities closely affected by 9/11 featuring previews of Rising, a series showcasing the people rebuilding and restoring Ground Zero. Streamed live to students nationwide, each event will be followed by live panel discussions with members of the community who will share how they were personally affected by 9/11.

Special guests will moderate the panel discussions at two of the events: Paula Zahn, host of Investigation Discovery’s On the Case with Paula Zahn will attend the NYC iSchool on September 9 and Danny Forster, executive producer of Rising, will attend American History High School in Newark, N.J., on September 13.

In addition to the events, Discovery Education is providing educators free online resources related to 9/11 available at Discovery Education streaming subscribers will have the exclusive opportunity to view episodes of Rising along with K-12 curricular content, discussion guides and lesson plans.
