August 11, 2008

(Silver Spring, Md.) Allison Rand has been promoted to vice president of digital media overseeing digital strategy and development for Discovery’s Emerging Networks group including Investigation Discovery (ID), Military Channel, HD Theater and Turbo Media.  Rand reports to Josh Freeman, Discovery’s executive vice president, digital media.  In addition, Rand is a key member of the leadership teams under Clark Bunting, president and general manager for Emerging Networks and Clint Stinchcomb, executive vice president and general manager for HD Theater and Turbo Media.

In her new role, Rand will work within the Emerging Networks leadership team to develop and direct the editorial vision of the Emerging Networks’ websites and across broadband, mobile, e-commerce and video-on -demand platforms.  Rand will have oversight for short-form video and interactive applications such as gaming and quizzes to ensure content across digital platforms reflects the Emerging Networks’ brands and on-air programming strategies.

“Allison has done a tremendous job in creating meaningful and engaging digital extensions for Discovery’s Emerging Networks,” said Freeman, who made today’s announcement.  “Under her direction, the networks’ online destinations have experienced significant growth and I look forward to working with her and her team to continue driving further value for the brands.”

Rand was previously director, interactive media for Emerging Networks where she and her team recently premiered two original short-form series on InvestigationDiscovery.com entitled “Crimes of the Century,” featuring author Vincent Bugliosi and “Alcatrez,” a 12-part series of webisodes, as well as launched ID’s fast-growing detective game “Trace Evidence.”

Prior to her role with Discovery Emerging Networks, Rand was an interactive executive producer for Animal Planet.  In this role, she managed content creation for the network’s website including developing Animal Planet’s first web and podcast series, “Pet Trends With Maggie Gallant,” which was awarded a 2007 honorary Webby in the Reality category.  Rand’s development of Animal Planet’s user generated campaign “Cuddle Corner” helped drive increased site traffic year-over-year.

Rand got her start at iVillage.com as the associate producer of Diet and Fitness.  She has since worked at LEGO as a producer and at the National Sleep Foundation as senior director of Internet and Publications.

Rand holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature from Purchase College, SUNY.  She is based at Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.
