(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Channel HD and Discovery On Demand are #1 in terms of interest among cable subscribers according to results of the 2008 Beta Research Cable Subscriber Study - Interest in Emerging/Mid-Sized/VOD/HD Networks released today. Discovery Channel HD earned first place finishes with numerous groups, including adults (tie), men, HDTV subscribers and persons who subscribe to/are likely to subscribe to digital cable. Among all measured on-demand services, Discovery On Demand is also #1 among several key groups, including persons age 18-49, DVR subscribers, HDTV subscribers, heavy Internet users, and persons who subscribe to/are likely to subscribe to digital cable, among others.

"It is rewarding to see that Discovery Channel HD, which just debuted last year, is already a hit with cable subscribers and driving business for our affiliates," said Bill Goodwyn, president, Domestic Distribution and Enterprises, Discovery Communications. "Discovery remains committed to being a leader in providing value for our distribution partners with a robust, high-quality offering of HD programming and on-demand content to meet the growing consumer appetite for these services." Driven by an expanded offering of top rated programming, more on-demand premieres and original short-form content, Discovery On Demand continues to enjoy significant double-digit traffic growth year over year, including its highest monthly usage ever in June. In other notable study results, Science Channel scored a strong second in several measures, including interest among the overall sample, among HDTV subscribers and among persons who subscribe to/are likely to subscribe to digital cable. Discovery Kids Channel is the #1 mid-sized network among persons with children age 11 and younger and among women age 18-34.
