(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications today announced the appointment of Jody Jones to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Digital Programming. Jones joins Discovery from Scripps Networks Interactive, where she oversaw the company's programming strategy across digital platforms. Jones will be responsible for the development and execution of Discovery's online presence, and working with network leadership to oversee the editorial vision for programming across the company's portfolio of websites.
"Jody has built some of the most robust online destinations in the industry and she will play a critical role in maximizing and growing the 35 million unique visitors who are drawn to our Discovery sites," said Kelly Day, Executive Vice President and COO of Digital Media and Commerce, to whom Jones will report. "With her strategic vision and creative instincts, Jody will enhance the affinity consumers have for our sites and expand the ways in which our partners can benefit from our unparalleled nonfiction offerings online."
At Scripps Networks Interactive since 2007, Jones overhauled the content and editorial vision surrounding the company's online brands, creating and implementing new multimedia strategies for FoodNetwork.com, HGTV.com, DIYNetwork.com, Recipezaar.com, FineLiving.com, and GACTV.com. Additionally, Jones currently serves as an adjunct professor in NYU's Center for Publishing graduate program, where she teaches Multiplatform Publishing.
Prior to joining Scripps Networks Interactive, Jones held several positions at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia including Vice President and Editorial Director. In this role, she launched the new marthastewart.com, creating the editorial strategy for the multimedia lifestyle portal. Previously, Jones worked at AOL where she developed the editorial programming for such sites as AOL House & Home, AOL Food, and AOL Women, which during her tenure was the highest-trafficked portal of websites for women.
Jones earned a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from George Mason University. She is based in Discovery's New York office.
