Discovery Communications Names James Gilbey to Vice President, Creative

(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications today announced that James Gilbey has been named Vice President, Group Creative Director, reporting to David Shackley, Senior Vice President, Creative.  Gilbey is based at the company's global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

"With Discovery's portfolio of world-class brands, we need a strong creative leader and have found that in James," said Shackley.  "He can produce ideas that cut through the clutter and get audiences to sit up and take notice."

In his new role, Gilbey will direct the creative development and execution of a wide variety of advertising, generating ideas for all of Discovery's global networks.  While overseeing a staff of creative designers, Gilbey will collaborate with senior executives throughout the company to maintain brand synergy and brand differentiation.  He will be responsible for promoting creative excellence, sharing assets and cross-pollination of ideas and techniques.

Most recently, Gilbey led the creative department of Discovery Networks Europe, overseeing production, marketing, branding and promotion that has won over 40 Promax awards, two D&AD's, and a Design Week Award.  Prior to joining Discovery in 2003, Gilbey served as regional Vice President of Programming and Production for Walt Disney/Buena Vista Television, based in Hong Kong and Singapore.
