(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications has promoted 10-year company veteran Greg Yavello to vice president, Domestic Distribution.  In this new role, Yavello is responsible for the distribution of Discovery's 13 domestic networks, plus Travel Channel and BBC America, throughout the eastern region of the U.S.  In addition, he will now support and drive strategy and negotiation for national accounts at the corporate level.  Today's announcement was made by Jennifer Dangar, senior vice president, Domestic Distribution, to whom Yavello reports.

"Greg has consistently proven to be a strategic leader and a valuable ambassador for Discovery's portfolio of networks," said Dangar.  "In his elevated role, Greg will continue his great work in matching Discovery's quality brands with distributors' priorities and offerings to drive our shared success."

Most recently, as regional director, eastern region, Domestic Distribution, Yavello oversaw the distribution strategy for Discovery's analog and digital networks, in addition to securing carriage for Discovery's suite of HD simulcast networks, which includes Discovery Channel HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD, Planet Green HD and Science Channel HD.  Also during his time with Discovery, Yavello served as national director of sales, regional director for the western region and account director for the northwest region.

Prior to joining Discovery, Yavello spent three years as senior account executive for Nextel Communications, where he generated sales from both new and existing customers of Nextel's handheld wireless business phones.

Yavello holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Arizona.  He is based at Discovery's Charlotte, N.C., office.
