-- Discovery Familia Offers More Spanish-Language Preschool Programming Than Any Other Network --

April 1, 2009

(Washington, DC) Since launching in 2007, Discovery Familia has been the fastest growing Spanish-language cable channel in terms of distribution, according to the Nielsen Hispanic Coverage Report.*

Now available in nearly two million Cable+ Hispanic Homes nationwide, the growth of Discovery Familia demonstrates a strong desire within the marketplace for family-oriented Spanish-language programming. The network has added over one million homes over the last year, far outpacing the gains of any other Spanish-language cable network available.

“The rapid growth of Discovery Familia is a testament to the value and appeal of the network’s unique, high-quality programming that brings families together and celebrates the Hispanic culture,” said Luis Silberwasser, senior vice president and general manager, Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group.

Fulfilling its promise to deliver high-quality content  for the entire family including its youngest members, Discovery Familia offers the most Spanish-language preschool programming available anywhere. With content designed to engage kids through a fun and educational approach, Discovery Familia’s preschool programming serves as a partner to parents by providing developmental tools to help their children preserve their native Spanish language and become life-long learners.

As part of its continued commitment to educate children and instill healthy habits from an early age, Discovery Familia will introduce Mundi, a new animated character who will join kids’ favorite, Doki, on amazing journeys of world exploration and discovery, beginning on Earth Day, April 22, 2009. Belonging to an unknown dragonfly species with the curious spirit of a five year old girl, Mundi takes young viewers on voyages that are a true celebration of the beauty of our planet, serving as a positive role model to help them better understand and appreciate the environment. Mundi will be featured in interstitials on the network and online at discoveryfamilia.com.

“Discovery Familia is committed to being a safe haven for children that fosters an enduring appreciation of learning and we are excited to welcome our newest educational character, Mundi, to the family,” added Silberwasser.

Online, Mundi will be featured on www.discoveryfamilia.com in games and interactives that allow children to explore and learn more about environmental protection. Mundi will help kids, who aided by their parents, can develop fun projects that enhance their understanding of how their environment works and why it’s important to protect it.

Mundi was created in collaboration with Laboratoon, a division of Steinbranding Studios dedicated to the creation and development of animated characters.
