(Silver Spring, MD) Discovery Networks International, a division of the leading global real-world media company Discovery Communications, today announced that Discovery HD, the company's international high-definition network, has launched on the StarHub platform in Singapore effective January 18, extending the service to 14 international markets including South Korea, Japan, Canada, Germany, Austria, Ireland, the UK, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

"Discovery Networks is the leading international provider of high-definition networks in the world, reinforcing the company's commitment to investment in new content and services that serve the needs of platform providers and enhance the viewing experience for consumers," said Dawn L. Discovery HD showcases dynamic content that maximizes the potential of high-definition technology, resulting in an audio and visual experience that is richer, deeper and more panoramic than standard definition viewing. In all markets, Discovery's high-definition programming is offered in 1080i, which delivers definition superior to both NTSC and PAL and lends itself perfectly to the type of rich, spectacular images and compelling storytelling for which Discovery is renowned.

Offering exclusive programs from Discovery's extensive worldwide library of thousands of hours of high-definition content representing 29 television brands, Discovery HD provides independently programmed schedules in each market, featuring some of Discovery's best series and specials in addition to original programming produced specifically for Discovery HD, including Fantastic Festivals of the World and the company's landmark series, Discovery ATLAS, which documents the world in breathtaking detail and is one of the most ambitious high-definition projects ever commissioned.

First launched in South Korea in February 2005, Discovery HD also rolled out in Japan and Canada in December 2005. In 2006, the network launched in Germany and Austria in February, in the UK and Ireland in May, in Poland and the Netherlands in October and in Scandinavia in November. In June 2002, Discovery Communications became the first global broadcaster to offer a 24/7 high-definition network with the launch of Discovery HD Theater in the United States.

Discovery has grown from its core property, the Discovery Channel, first launched in the United States in 1985, to current global operations in 170 countries and territories with nearly 1.5 billion cumulative subscribers.
