Discovery Networks International Names Catherine Mullen As Senior Vice President, Strategy and Digital Media

(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Networks International today announced the appointment of Catherine Mullen as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Digital Media and Alden Mitchell as Vice President, Strategy.

Reporting to Sahar Elhabashi, COO, Discovery Networks International, Mullen will work in partnership with international senior management to set strategic and business development priorities across the division and drive the international digital media business. Discovery Networks International distributes 16 media brands to 810 million cumulative TV subscribers in 170 countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

Mullen joins Discovery from Dailymotion.com, where she served as Managing Director of Content and International and was responsible for new media content strategy as well as the launch of the French-based start-up’s video sharing websites internationally, focusing on the US, UK and Germany. Prior to that, she served as General Manager of Fuse and Fuse.tv, where she successfully launched Fuse’s first long-form original series on linear, online and VOD platforms.

Before joining Fuse, Mullen held several executive roles with MTV Networks International, including serving as General Manager of MTV UK and Ireland from 2002 to 2005, and as Vice President of International Strategy and Business Development from 1998 - 2002, where she was tasked with managing the company’s growth strategies for the MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon brands in all markets outside the US.

In the role of Vice President, Strategy, Mitchell will help manage strategic planning and business development for the division, reporting directly to Mullen. Mitchell joins Discovery from MTV Networks, where she most recently served as Vice President of Digital Partner Relations and was responsible for content distribution and relationships with key mobile and online distributors in the US. Prior to that, she served as Vice President of Affiliate Sales Strategy and Business Development, MTV Networks, where she focused on developing and deploying non-linear content for all MTV Networks’ brands. Mitchell has also held corporate strategic planning positions with Time Warner, Yahoo and Disney.

Mullen holds an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Clark University. Mitchell earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Harvard.
