-- Discovery on Demand Posts 30% Year Over Year Growth in February --

April 1, 2009

(Washington, DC) Discovery on Demand is partnering with cable operators this spring to offer a bouquet of next-day episodes of new and returning series including Discovery Channel’s OUT OF THE WILD: ALASKA EXPERIMENT, TLC’s TABLE FOR 12, and Animal Planet’s GROOMER HAS IT.

“As consumers’ interest in viewing their favorite content on demand continues to grow, VOD remains an important complementary vehicle for Discovery’s networks,” said Rebecca Glashow, senior vice president, Digital Media Distribution, Discovery Communications. “We’ve seen tremendous growth for Discovery on Demand over the last year and are committed to partnering with distributors to bring ongoing innovation and value to the platform.”

Discovery on Demand kicked off 2009 with a strong start, delivering two consecutive months of double-digit YOY growth. Driven by increases across all the major networks and incredible triple-digit growth for TLC, the service delivered nearly seven million views in February, representing a 30% gain over 2008.

Discovery on Demand is featuring next-day episodes for the following:

Discovery Channel’s OUT OF THE WILD: ALASKA EXPERIMENT
Series Premiere on Tuesday, April 14 at 10 PM (ET/PT) and On-Demand on Wednesday, April 15.

Nine ordinary Americans volunteer to be abandoned deep in the Alaska interior. They set out for civilization, traveling the harshest miles on the planet, with only rudimentary clothing and gear to help them survive. No cell phones, no food, no real sense of direction. It’s a punishing test that will take at least a month. There is no million dollar prize, no seven figure job, no wedding day with “Mr. Perfect.” Just an epic journey. Who will survive Alaska?

TLC’s TABLE FOR 12
Airs Mondays at 9 PM (ET/PT) and On-Demand Tuesdays through June 2.
Meet the network’s newest family…The Hayes! When Eric and Betty Hayes decided to start a family, they never fathomed they would one day be the parents of three sets of multiples, totaling ten children. TLC traces this clan’s daily experiences and often times chaotic outings in the new series TABLE FOR 12.

Animal Planet’s GROOMER HAS IT Season Two
Season Premiere on Saturday, April 11, at 9 PM (ET/PT) and On-Demand on Sunday, April 12.
Sassier, snippier and more cut-throat than before GROOMER HAS IT is back for season two! Hosted by Jai Rodriguez, this competition series sniffs out 12 of America’s most creative and hard-working groomers—amateur and professional—brings them to Los Angeles and puts their drive to the test as they compete for the supreme grooming title. With tougher challenges and bigger rewards, see how inspired and competitive these groomers get as they transform some of the scruffiest-looking dogs to their doggie best! Judges Dr. Karen Halligan, Xavier Santiago and Joey Villani put the groomers through their paces each week to see whose knowledge and skill can turn the shaggiest, most unstylish pooch into a fancy, prancing pup. While every dog has its day, at the end of the series, only one groomer has his or hers…and is crowned 2009’s Groomer of the Year!
