James Hitchcock Named Discovery Channel Marketing and Branding Officer
-- Former MTV Networks Executive to Lead Network On and Off Air --
(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications, LLC announced today that James Hitchcock has been appointed Marketing and Branding Officer for Discovery Channel reporting to President and General Manager John Ford.
Hitchcock will lead and direct Discovery Channel branding, initiating all phases of the marketing and advertising outreach efforts to maximize business and programming objectives. He will be responsible for developing creative and media strategies, working closely across all departments to actively leverage advertising and promotional investments with innovative digital, communications and commerce opportunities.

Prior to joining Discovery Channel, Hitchcock served at MTV Networks as senior vice president of marketing and creative for CMT. Under his direction, CMT established a clear position of leadership in its programming category, increasing ratings and sales revenue.
Previous to CMT, Hitchcock honed his skills at some of the top creative shops in the country including vice president and creative director at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners; associate creative director at Chiat Day and senior art director at Fallon McElligott Berlin.
His talent and expertise have helped shape some of the world’s best known products and services into the iconic brands they are today, including Target, Nike, Coca-Cola and Volkswagen.
Hitchcock is the recipient of numerous awards within the marketing community, including recognition at The New York Film Festival. In 2006 Fast Company magazine named him one of the top ten creative minds. He has been singled out by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Fortune magazine for his role in shaping the Target brand and business.
Hitchcock is a graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
