Kelly Day Promoted to Chief Operating Officer, Digital Media and Commerce for Discovery Communications

April 13, 2009

(Silver Spring, Md.) Discovery Communications today announced that Kelly Day has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the company's Digital Media and Commerce division.  Day will report to Bruce Campbell, president, Digital Media and Corporate Development.

In her new role, Day will oversee all operations for the recently combined Digital Media and Commerce division, including the company's U.S. websites; Interactive Technology; Digital Operations and Programming; and Licensing and Home Entertainment.

"Kelly has proven herself to be a strong operational leader and has built a robust commerce offering that extends the Discovery brand beyond the television screen," said Campbell. "With her broad understanding of technology and consumer behavior, she is the ideal candidate to deepen the level of engagement across all of our digital platforms."

Most recently, Day served as Chief Operating Officer of Discovery's Commerce division.  Under her purview, DiscoveryStore.com became one of the most well-regarded e-commerce websites in the industry, recently named The E-tailing Group's best of the web for consumer experience.  Also under Day's leadership, Discovery Commerce recently refocused its efforts on online commerce, expanded its product lines sold through mass-market retailers and outsourced its retail licensing business as part of a strategic realignment to better position the business for growth and success in the competitive retail market.

Prior to joining Discovery in 2005, Day was vice president of e-commerce at The Knot, the leading wedding media company.  She spent the previous seven years at AOL in a variety of digital media/commerce positions, most recently with AOL Shopping, where she developed new products for AOL's Shopping portal site.

Day is based at Discovery's global headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.
