Health Media and Discovery Kids

As president and general manager of Discovery Studios, Discovery Health Media and Discovery Kids, Tomko oversees the operations, creative direction and business for each of these business units.
Discovery Studios is the internal production engine for Discovery Communications, creating original series, specials and short form content for the family of Discovery networks, as well as theatrical documentaries released under the Discovery Films banner. The multi-platform Discovery Health Media business includes the Discovery Health and FitTV television networks, DiscoveryHealth.com, Discovery Health CME (Continuing Medical Education) and the Discovery Health On-Call video-on-demand service. Discovery Kids is a 24-hour digital cable network providing entertaining, high-quality children’s programming to more than 58 million U.S. households.
Previously, Tomko served as executive vice president of Discovery Studios and as executive vice president for Discovery Networks U.S. Production, where she oversaw production for all U.S. networks and managed daytime/fringe programming. Earlier, Tomko served as general manager and senior vice president of FitTV, where she led the re-launch of the network. While at FitTV, Tomko managed the development, production and programming of an entirely new schedule while overseeing all operational aspects of the network.
A 23-year media industry veteran, Tomko also served as vice president of production and development for Animal Planet. While in this role, Tomko secured the talent and spearheaded the development of The Jeff Corwin Experience, launched an exclusive, multi-platform deal with the Jane Goodall Institute for Animal Planet and Discovery Communications, and doubled the network’s volume of internally developed projects. Tomko’s previous positions at Animal Planet include director of development and executive producer for the network. Prior to joining Animal Planet, Tomko was director, development and programming for Time-Life Video & Television. She was also previously an executive producer at the Discovery Channel and TLC, and produced for an array of media and entertainment companies including Orion Pictures and Editel.
Tomko began her career in production at WBZ-TV, a Westinghouse company, then the NBC affiliate in Boston. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College.
