Jean-Briac (JB) Perrette
Chief Digital Officer
As Chief Digital Officer for Discovery Communications, JB Perrette oversees a combined team of more than 350 employees, leading the company's global digital strategy, including website and mobile offerings, digital distribution, digital video networks, social media, IT, commerce and licensing.
Since joining the company in 2011, Perette has focused Discovery’s digital portfolio and driven the division’s mission: to be the #1 media/video company across all screens. Under Perrette’s leadership, Discovery has created content that both enhances on-air experience and expands Discovery’s reach across platforms. Perrette recently oversaw the Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda digital experience, which shattered digital and social media records for the company, becoming the highest performing online live event and most social program in the company’s history. He also led the creation of Animal Planet L!VE, a 24/7 digital network, featuring more than 15 live animal cams, making Discovery the first major non-sports brand to launch a 24/7, live digital experience.
Perrette also oversaw the acquisition of Revision3, a leading internet TV company, in 2012, which has since more than tripled its viewership. Since the acquisition, the company has launched several new digital channels, including DNews and Stuff You Should Know, and new destinations like TestTube.com.
Furthering Discovery’s interest in the burgeoning online “knowledge space,” Perrette also oversaw the strategic investment in Lumosity.
Prior to joining Discovery, Perrette spent 11 years with NBCUniversal, most recently serving as President, Digital and Affiliate Distribution and Content Distribution Strategy, leading North American distribution of television and film content across digital platforms. He coordinated NBCU’s overall content distribution strategy, and was responsible for NBC’s broadcast network distribution. He also helped launch new digital channels Sleuth, Chiller and Universal HD and played a leadership role in developing the industry-leading digital venture, Hulu. Perrette’s previous roles at NBC Universal included President of Affiliate Distribution, SVP of New Media Distribution; CFO of NBC Universal Cable; and VP of NBC Business Development. Before joining NBC in 2000, Perrette worked for GE Capital, and at CS First Boston in London and Tokyo.
Perrette’s industry and civic commitments have included board positions with A&E Television Networks, Hulu, the Peacock Equity Fund and Citizen Schools New York, a non-profit devoted to expanding the learning day for middle school students in low-income communities.
For his numerous industry accomplishments, Perrette was named to the Hollywood Reporter’s 2010 and 2009 “Digital Power 50” List, CableFAX Magazine’s 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009 “Digital Hot List” And Multichannel News “40 Under 40.”
Perrette received his BA from Hamilton College and currently resides in New York City with his wife, Amy and their son.
