Larry Kramer is senior advisor at Polaris Venture Partners, a national venture capital firm with over $3 billion under management that invests in seed, early stage and growth equity businesses in the technology, life science, digital media, enertech and consumer sectors.
Prior Professional Experience:
- Advisor to CBS - 2006 to 2008
- President, CBS Digital Media - 2005 to 2006 (first president, reporting directly to CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves)
- CEO and Founder, MarketWatch, Inc. - 1997 to 2005 (when it was sold to Dow Jones)
- Vice President, Data Broadcasting Corp. - 1994 to 1997 (until founding of MarketWatch)
- Founder, President and Executive Editor, DataSport Inc. - 1991 to 1994 (until acquisition by Data Broadcasting Corp.)
- Mr. Kramer also spent more than 20 years as a reporter and editor, serving as a reporter and executive editor for the San Francisco Examiner, a financial reporter, assistant to the executive editor and assistant managing editor and metro editor for the Washington Post, and executive editor of the Trenton (N.J.) Times.

- Mr. Kramer is a director of Discovery Communications and a member of the Audit and Nominating Committees.

- Mr. Kramer serves on the boards of Answers.com, Xinhua Finance Media (XFML), BlackArrow, Inc. (chairman), CreditCard.com, and Harvard Business School Publishing. He also serves on the advisory boards to the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and Jib Jab Media Inc.
Education:
- Mr. Kramer holds an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from Syracuse University.
Awards:
- Mr. Kramer is the recipient of several awards for reporting, including the National Press Club Award and The Gerald Loeb award for business reporting. His staffs also won two Pulitzer Prizes. He has been a guest lecturer at the Harvard Business School, Syracuse University, University of Pennsylvania, UC Berkeley, NYU, Emory, and served a two-year term as a Pulitzer Prize juror.
