DICAPRIO PROJECT SLATED FOR DISCOVERY’S PLANET GREEN

-- 24-Hour Eco-Lifestyle Network Launching Q1 2008 --

LOS ANGELES – Actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio will help Discovery Communications jump-start its first-quarter 2008 launch of Planet Green, the 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network, with a bold new television project.

The 13-part series will tell the story of rebuilding the Kansas farm town of Greensburg into a green model of the future. Destroyed on May 4 by a tornado, Greensburg residents will attempt to rebuild their community as a sustainable model of eco-living. With over 1,500 people displaced by the tornado and waiting to return to their homes, the series will chronicle the rebirth of this once-vibrant, classically American town – stronger … and green.

The project was brought to Discovery by DiCaprio and Craig Piligian of Pilgrim Films & Television. DiCaprio and his production arm Appian Way will executive produce the series along with Piligian and Discovery Studios, the company’s in-house production unit.

Discovery Communications Founder and Chairman John Hendricks along with President and CEO David Zaslav invited DiCaprio to sit on the Planet Green Board of Advisors, which will be comprised of 18 leaders in the environmental movement in the fields of climate change, environmental science, technology, business, government, the non-profit sector, media and entertainment. DiCaprio joins current board members including The Nature Conservancy, the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and Sony’s Andrew Lack.

“This partnership strengthens Discovery’s longstanding commitment to be the global leader in providing consumers information and resources to better protect, preserve and celebrate our planet,” Zaslav said.

Planet Green is Discovery Communications’ global, cross-company initiative with a commitment to document, preserve and celebrate the planet, including the 24-hour television network in more than 50 million homes. Planet Green speaks to people who want to understand green living and to those who truly want to make a difference by providing tools and information to meet the critical challenge of protecting our environment.
