While no one from the Discovery Communications family was up for a statuette at the Emmy Awards last night (we had our night to shine last week), we were nevertheless pleased to see both Discovery Channel and TLC well-represented at the annual celebration of excellence in television.

Kate Gosselin of TLC’s Kate Plus 8 was part of the brilliant opening number, which spoofed Glee and ended with a pitch-perfect imitation by Jimmy Fallon of Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run. Kate was one of the backup singers and danced along with the Glee cast, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Joel McHale, Jorge Garcia and more.
Earlier in the night, Jimmy Fallon name dropped Paul Sr. from TLC’s American Chopper on the red carpet when Ryan Seacrest asked him who engraves the names on the Emmys (watch the clip below).
Two of Discovery Channel’s top series were also included in the telecast, with MythBusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman featured at the opening of the reality TV montage (prompting many MythBusters fans on Twitter to share their support for seeing them present at the Emmys next year). And, on a sad note, Captain Phil Harris from Deadliest Catch was remembered in the annual tribute to TV personalities (in front of and behind the camera) who passed away during the last year.
