Discovery Channel Explores Japan’s ‘Nuclear Nightmare’

Last Sunday, Discovery Channel took a look at the recent earthquake in Japan, through new footage and first person accounts. MegaQuake: Hour That Shook Japan explored the mega-physics inside this latest Ring of Fire cataclysm that rocked the Earth on its axis. This Thursday, April 28, at 10pm ET/PT, Discovery Channel will look at another angle of last month’s disaster: the nuclear crisis at Fukushima Daiichi.

Nuclear Nightmare: Japan in Crisis presents a comprehensive timeline of the massive earthquake and tsunami that triggered a horrific domino effect at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi power plant. The documentary, hosted by Investigation Discovery’s Paula Zahn, will focus on the personal stories of people who lived through the terrifying earthquake and the tsunami, including an American consultant who was at the power plant when the terrible chain of events started.  Viewers will also hear from two nuclear experts who were at Three Mile Island and know what it’s like inside a nuclear power plant during a crisis, as well as a wide range of experts on every aspect of the crisis, from radiation’s effect on human health to how backup systems failed at the plant.

Can workers bring the plant under control? What lessons can we learn and how the disaster will affect America’s nuclear energy program? Find out on Thursday at 10pm ET/PT.
