Velocity to Debut October 4 with Automotive, Sports and Adventure Programming

Yesterday, Discovery Communications announced the premiere programming slate for Velocity, an all-HD network targeting upscale men that will launch in two short weeks on October 4.  Velocity will be available in more than 40 million homes (look for the channel currently occupied by HD Theater), and will feature an all-new primetime schedule and more than 140 original hours of travel, leisure, automotive, adventure, and sports.

Today, Discovery and the NFL announced two all-new franchises that will debut on Velocity starting tomorrow night at 8pm ET/PT:  NFL Single Coverage and Greatest NFL Rivalries. NFL Single Coverageexamines the key individual match-ups within a single game using personal interviews, in-game player microphones and special camera angles to dissect the personal match-upgs between opposing players and coaches. Tomorrow night’s premiere features the 2011 season opener between divisional foes Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, showcasing the individual and group match-ups among one of football’s best rivalries.

Greatest NFL Rivalries, which airs immediately afterwards at 8:30pm ET/PT, takes a wide-angle view of the two franchises featured on the preceding episode of NFL Single Coverage.  Featuring NFL Films’ content library, it chronicles the league’s best rivalry games by taking a look back at the past contests, plays and personalities that defined these grudge matches.

Starting in October, Velocity will also air new seasons of some of TV’s most popular vehicle programming, including Inside West Coast Customs, Mecum Auto Auctions, and Chasing Classic Cars. Venturing outside the garage, Velocity will also feature the premiere series Extreme Fishing, which takes viewers on a journey around the world to go after some of hte most exotic fish on earth.
