Discovery Communications Expands ‘Say Yes to the Prom’ Initiative Nationwide

Say Yes to the PromToday, Discovery Communications announced the expansion of its annual Say Yes to the Prom initiative, a day that promotes confidence for deserving high school girls. Say Yes to the Prom, now in its third year, invites a group of high-school girls to enjoy a day of prom dress shopping, makeovers and mentoring. Monte Durham of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta will help the girls select the dress of their dreams to create the perfect prom look.

With the success of past years’ Say Yes to the Prom events, this year Discovery will be expanding the program to Chicago and Des Moines, more than doubling past years’ impact by giving high school girls across the country a chance to develop mentoring relationships with industry professionals, build their self-confidence and of course, “say yes to the prom dress.”

As excitement builds for these events, Discovery Communications and TLC also will be spreading the style online and across social media, inviting people across the country to flash back to their prom moments – no matter how puffy-sleeved, glitter-tastic or just plain wrong they may be!

Kicking off this week, everyone is invited to share their favorite prom throwback using the #TBTProm hashtag on Twitter, Instagram and beyond every Thursday through May 8. Each week the TLC team will select their favorite #TBTProm pics to feature on TLC.com, so bring on the cheesy hairstyles and you may find yours in the mix. For regular updates on Say Yes to the Prom, including updates from the glamorous girls themselves as they receive their makeovers, follow the #SYTTP hashtag across social.
