Today marks the official launch of Discovery Life Channel, a new network focused on celebrating all of life’s unexpected moments and the experiences that accompany them. The network is an evolution of Discovery Fit & Health, which launched in early 2011. Accompanying the change is a slate of new programming, which includes shows like:
- Outrageous Births: Tales from the Crib, which features first-person accounts by real mothers and fathers sharing their unbelievable, unexpected birth stories – from a baby born during a hurricane to a baby who was actually born twice. Premieres Thursday, January 15 at 9pm ET/CT
- 50 Ways to Kill Your Mother, which follows the endearing and enduring relationship between a brave 70-year-old Irish mom and her daredevil son Baz Ashmawy as they grab life by the horns on a unique journey to experience extreme adventures together. Premieres Thursday, January 15 at 10pm ET/CT
- NY ER, a raw and intimate look at life inside the crowded emergency rooms at New York Presbyterian Hospital, University Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. Premieres Friday, January 16 at 10pm ET/CT and 10:30pm ET/CT
Here in Silver Spring, we celebrated the launch with a special breakfast of – what else? – Life cereal, complete with fresh fruit and hot coffee. Afterwards, we were invited to attend a screening of 50 Ways to Kill Your Mother, which was followed by a Q&A session with Jane Latman, General Manager and Julie Meisner Eagle, VP of Development & Production of Discovery Life Channel.
