TLC is saying “yes!” once again to ‘Say Yes to the Prom,’ an initiative that makes prom more accessible for girls across the country with mentorship, dresses, makeup and accessories. Now in its fourth year, the event is designed to build courage and self-confidence among young women, and connects students with industry professionals for future networking.
Girls at each of the events will select from more than 2,500 donated prom dresses as well as a wide range of shoes and accessories and receive full hair and makeup styling before walking the red-carpet in a runway reveal show. Monte Durham, star of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, will be on-site to host and give his personal touch to the girls’ looks before each says “yes” to the prom dress.
Stops on the 2015 tour include:
- March 16 – New York, New York
- March 19 – Denver, Colorado
- March 31- Silver Spring, Maryland
- April 9 – Miami, Florida
- May 6 – Los Angeles, California
In addition to the mentoring, style sessions and red carpet finale at each event, the girls will receive a video message from First Lady Michelle Obama, an outspoken champion for the empowerment of young women.
This year’s national partners include JCPenney, returning for the second year in a row to provide salon experts and a wide range of accessories; Make-A-Wish®, which will have wish kids participating in select locations; and Becca’s Closet, which will collect any remaining dresses to distribute to high school girls with financial need across the country. Bridals by Lori, home to TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, also donated 300 brand-new dresses for the girls to choose from.
