Discovery Communications Supports White House ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ Initiative with Town Halls in Chicago and Philadelphia

On May 7, Discovery Education and the School District of Philadelphia partnered to host a town hall in support of the White House’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative. The event, held at Philadelphia’s School of the Future, is part of a larger series of town halls supporting the federal program, which focuses on improving the life outcomes of boys and young men of color through public-private partnerships and other measures. Each event brings together local government leaders, law enforcement officials and educators, as well as advocacy, faith and business leaders who discuss key intervention points outlined by My Brother’s Keeper.

Discovery Communications’ first announced its support of the program last year. In addition to the town halls that have since been held – including one a couple weeks ago in Chicago on April 23 –, the company has committed more than $1 million to produce and air an upcoming TV special (which is tentatively scheduled to air in June). Discovery Channel will also host a premiere event in Washington, DC to coincide with the premiere, followed by a panel discussion.
