Red, White and You Celebrations in Oroville and Waveland Go Off With a Bang!

Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Destination America and USA Today hosted their third annual Red, White and You celebrations for two extremely deserving communities: Oroville, CA and Waveland, MS. Festivities in both locations included a spread of all-American hot dogs and ice cream, carnival activities, musical performances, and spectacular fireworks.

Nearly 20,000 local residents gathered to see Oroville’s first fireworks display in years. Home of the 770-foot Oroville Dam – the tallest in the country – the town’s recent drought and economic challenges  have forced the Dam to remain dark over the holiday. Red, White and You allowed the city to resume its annual tradition, as residents watched the fireworks launch high above the Dam from their boats. TNA Impact Wrestling stars Madison Rayne, Josh Matthews and Ethan Carter III showed their support for the town, too, as they joined the celebration.

And over in Waveland, more than 30,000 people joined together to watch the town’s first fireworks display in a decade. Devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the town has made a remarkable recovery, but has not hosted a Fourth of July fireworks display since. Impact Wrestling’s Jeremy Borash, James Storm, Chris Melendez, and Taryn Terrel were also in attendance to help celebrate the town’s tenacity and vitality and to watch the fireworks light up the town once again.

More than 2,600 entries were submitted on behalf of towns nationwide to host the free city-wide Independence Day event. Submissions by Deliah Robison and Donna Estopinal won the celebrations for Oroville and Waveland, respectively. Both communities were treated to Ball Park® beef franks and DQ Dilly® Bars as well as BBQ specialties inspired by Destination America’s BBQ Pitmasters: All Stars at the event.
