Where there’s a will, there’s a way! That’s the case for the production team of Deadliest Catch, at least, who set out last winter to capture 360-degree footage from the series despite the temperamental weather and turbulent seas. Working with our in-house Agency, the footage was later edited down into four immersive virtual reality experiences, transforming fans into virtual crew members.

‘Experience Life As a Crab’ is the first of four to be released from the series. The experiences places fans directly on the sorting table of The Wizard as crew members sift through their latest catch – keeping the male crabs and tossing the females and smaller male crabs back into the ocean. Captain Keith Colburn guides viewers through the experience, offering narration throughout.

The remaining three experiences, which take place either on The Wizard or The Brenna A, will be released in the next few weeks – the second this Friday, April 29 and the remaining two in May. Each will provide unique, inside access into the lives of the crew, allowing fans to experience firsthand what being on Deadliest Catch is like.

To check out the experience for yourself, download the Discovery VR Android or iOS app, or head to DiscoveryVR.com. And don’t forget to tune into a new episode of Deadliest Catch every Tuesday night at 9/8c!
