Every year since 1934, the Federal Duck Stamp Contest has been held for artists to submit their work for a chance of winning wildlife art fame. This contest is the focus of Animal Planet’s acquisition, The Million Dollar Duck. The documentary follows six contestants who have entered the contest while also exploring the history of this innovative and successful conservation program.

Brian Golden Davis’s film is quirky and lighthearted as he presents an important topic of wildlife conservation intertwined with the eccentric contestants that the film features. Davis originally heard about the contest from a high school friend because his stepfather had won, and then Davis revisited the topic because of the book Wild Duck Chase: Inside the Strange and Wonderful World of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest, by Martin J Smith.

Check out the sneak peek, and be sure to watch the television premiere of The Million Dollar Duck tonight at 9 ET on Animal Planet.
