The glitz and glam of prom season is already upon us and we are thrilled to announce that TLC’s Say Yes to the Prom initiative is returning for its sixth year! Kicking off this month, the tour will reach nearly 1,000 underserved and academically high-achieving students in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Chicago and Silver Spring, MD – turning prom dreams into realities and empowering students to continue thinking big and pursuing their goals. TLC’s very own Monte Durham will once again host the events and provide one-on-one style sessions. In LA and NYC, he’ll be joined for the first time ever by fashion icon Betsey Johnson!
Going beyond the dress and tuxedo, the program is designed to prepare students for life after high school, featuring scholarship, internship and mentorship opportunities with The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation’s Careers in Entertainment initiative, The Emma Bowen Foundation, Miami Dade College, and New York City’s Center for Youth Employment in partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s Ladders for Leaders program.
Extending beyond the runway, a new 90-minute SAY YES TO THE PROM special following five students from this year’s Los Angeles event will premiere on TLC on Saturday, April 1, followed by an encore on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Monday, April 3. Additionally, an all-new line of SAY YES TO THE PROM dresses and accessories will further extend the reach of the program, hitting Macy’s stores nationwide in February.
This confidence-boosting, meaningful program leaves a lasting impact on participants well beyond their prom nights and we are honored to meet such remarkable young people!
