When do you offer internships?

Discovery has internships during the spring and summer semesters. Our summer 2019 opportunities are live, the deadline to apply is Friday, March 22nd. For spring 2020 opportunities check back in September 2019. We do not offer fall internships at this time.

Who Should Apply?

Students must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student enrolled full time at an accredited college or university to participate in our Internship Program. Proof of enrollment will be required if selected. Students must also have the legal right to work in the United States and have a 3.0 GPA.

Unfortunately recent graduates are not eligible for the program.

Housing?

If selected for an internship you will be responsible for securing your own housing.

When will I hear back?

Due to the high number of applications we receive each semester we are unable to respond to individual requests for status updates. You may be contacted for an interview any time between September and December for our spring semester and February through April for our summer semester.

When do you offer internships?

All UK Discovery and Eurosport internships start in July each year. They run for a 12 month period from that date.

Who Should Apply?

Students in their sandwich year of university are our main source of candidates for this programme. However, there are certain business areas that are open to considering talented and creative individuals without a degree – so if you are curious, creative, passionate, and feel you can add value to our business, get in touch!

Housing?

If selected for an internship you will be responsible for securing your own housing. But we do have some information that we can send your way – in addition to connecting you with other Interns who may be open to seeking housing in groups.

When will I hear back?

Due to the high number of applications we receive each year we are unable to respond to individual requests for status updates. You may be contacted for an interview any time in March for our intake in July of 2019.

How does the interview process work?

If your application is successful after initial screening, the first stage of the process will require you to send us video clips of yourself answering a few questions that we will provide for you. More information will be sent to those who are invited to this stage.

Following this, those who are selected to move to the final stage of the hiring process will be contacted within 2 weeks of submitting video applications to take part in a final interview, held either in our London offices, or via Zoom or Skype.

Germany

The Discovery Germany Intern Program, based out of the Munich office, is a paid learning experience targeting current university students or upcoming graduates to gain valuable industry knowledge and skills through hands-on training, work shadowing, project management and
networking opportunities.

Italy

The Discovery Italy Internship Program is a paid learning experience targeting current university students or upcoming graduates to gain valuable industry knowledge and skills. Internships run for 6 months and are based in our offices in Milan and Rome. We also have a specific internship program, focused on our Advertising Sales team.

Japan

Discovery Eurosport’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Internship

Discovery Japan and Eurosport are collaborating on a unique internship program to give highly motivated students the opportunity to be a part of broadcasting the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games across 50 countries in Europe.

The Discovery Eurosport internship is a 12-month program designed to develop and invest in the next generation of broadcast and media talent. Over the course of the year you will have the opportunity to learn in an international environment, develop your English skills, gain first-hand production experience and work during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as a part of the Discovery Eurosport crew in Tokyo.

You will learn about Discovery’s mission, values, culture and commitment to quality programming, products and services. In turn, you will be able to showcase your unique talents, cultivate your skills and most importantly, have fun.






Internship FAQ

What does the internship involve?

Mentorship: All interns will be assigned a mentor from Discovery Japan. They will meet with their mentor once a month and learn about the operations of a global media company.

English lessons: All interns will have the option to participate in English courses to strengthen their business communication skills.

Production training: First-hand production experience will be gained by participating in work experience with Discovery’s production partner, Nouvelle Media.
Workshops & training: Various workshops and training sessions will be offered including, Olympic planning workshops to prepare for the Olympic work experience and meet members of the team.

Olympic work experience: Interns will be assigned to various departments within the Discovery Eurosport team to work as Runners during the Olympic Games.

Post-internship presentation: At the end of the internship, interns will make a presentation to leaders from Discovery, Eurosport and Nouvelle Media to demonstrate learnings.

When will the internships begin?

The internship will kick off in July 2019. The internship is divided into two parts. Part one, will comprise of mentorship meetings, trainings and workshops and will take place between August 2019 – June 2020. Interns will be asked to commit approximately 4 hours a month during this period. The second part, is the Olympic work experience which will take place over the duration of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

What will the Olympic work experience involve?

The Olympic work experience will last, on average, 5 weeks, with most interns beginning early July 2020 and completing their assignments mid-August 2020. Work days and hours will be dependent on the production and competition schedules.
All Internship runners will be required to be present in Tokyo leading up to and throughout the duration of the Games as per their individual assignment.

Which departments will interns be assigned to for the Olympic work experience?

During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, interns may be assigned to a team in one the following departments:

  • Operations
  • Digital Media
  • Engineering & IT
  • Logistics & Services
  • Production

Who Should Apply?

We’re looking for passionate, hard-working candidates who are confident communicators.

  • University students in Tokyo
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with fluency in Japanese and conversational/intermediate in English
  • Additional language skills are highly desirable (Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish and Swedish preferred)
  • Interest in the Sports Media Industry
  • A flexible approach to long working days
  • A willingness and a positive approach to any required tasks
  • Solution-focused when presented with a new challenge
  • Preference given to those studying, or with a background in, the Broadcast Industry or Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Engineering, Business, Events Management, Digital Media
  • Sound knowledge of, and ability to use, internationally accepted IT software and systems
  • Team player
  • Personal interest in the Olympics
