(New York) – SERENGETI, Discovery’s new six-part nature series, takes audiences into the remote, pristine and formidable plains of Tanzania beginning Sunday, August 4 as the series follows the daily lives of the majestic animals who call the Serengeti home. Created and produced by Emmy®-winner Simon Fuller (“American Idol,” “So You Think You Can Dance”), directed and produced by Emmy®-winning wildlife filmmaker John Downer (“Penguin: Spy in The Huddle”), and narrated by Academy® Award winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, the series is revolutionary both in its highly stylistic approach and innovative filming techniques, as well as its unique use of original music created by Will Gregory and featuring vocals by artists such as Lola Lennox.
In celebration of the landmark series, Discovery has paired with a notable list of partners to give viewers the opportunity to connect and get involved with the sights, scenes and animals of SERENGETI.

WildAid, a non-profit which works to reduce global consumption of wildlife products and to increase local support for conservation efforts, has partnered with Discovery in celebration of SERENGETI. Together, WildAid and Discovery will spread awareness and raise funds for anti-poaching efforts in Africa. SERENGETI storyteller Nyong’o is a WildAid ambassador and a prominent advocate of WildAid’s efforts in Africa. She has traveled to Africa with WildAid to help support elephant conservation. Discovery will also release a :15 WildAid x Serengeti PSA featuring Lupita Nyong’o that urges viewers to help protect Serengeti wildlife by texting AFRICA to 707070.
Having already donated over $1 million to the nonprofit organization, Save the Elephants, over the last four years, Ivory Ella has teamed up with Discovery to release a special edition SERENGETI t-shirt collection. A portion of the sales will be donated to Save the Elephants to help secure a future for elephants. On World Elephant Day, August 12, Ivory Ella will also release a limited quantity of children’s shirts from the SERENGETI collection. They will also be donating an additional $5 on all purchases made that day to Save The Elephants. To celebrate SERENGETI’S premiere on August 4, Ivory Ella is also partnering with influencers and holding an exclusive launch party in LA driving awareness for wildlife conservation.
Also joining Discovery’s SERENGETI as partners is Harney & Sons, who will be releasing a limited edition of ‘Serengetea”. A portion of the sales will go directly to WildAid’s conservation efforts in Africa. An earthy and fruity fooibos loose-leaf tea blend, “Serengetea” is inspired by the stories and beauty of the Serengeti.
In addition, Pooch Perks and Discovery have teamed up to celebrate the epic new series by creating a limited-edition Serengeti pooch box for viewers and their dogs. Equipped with three plush animals from the series, two delicious treats and one yummy chew, Pooch Perks SERENGETI boxes will be available for a limited time only – August 2 through September 8. A portion of each sale will go directly to WildAid to support their efforts in the Serengeti region.
Also teaming up with Discovery in honor of SERENGETI’s release is the African Wildlife Foundation, the leading conservation organization working solely in Africa to protect its unique wildlife and wild lands. Together Discovery and AWF will work to bring awareness to the threats facing wildlife species who call Serengeti home. Donations made through AWF’s SERENGETI page will go directly toward saving Africa’s elephants and other iconic species from extinction.
The Frankfurt Zoological Society is another partner of Discovery’s SERENGETI and works to protect the Serengeti National Park as well as the animals who inhabit it. For over half a century, the Frankfurt Zoological Society has been working with national park rangers to tackle threats to Serengeti wildlife, such as poachers’ snares. Together, Discovery and the FZS will work to support de-snaring in the Serengeti.
Finally, Discovery and Grumeti Fund are partnering up to support conservation of the Serengeti ecosystem for future generations by raising awareness of their Wildlife Wellbeing program located in Tanzania. The Grumeti Fund is actively involved in preserving 350,000 acres of previously neglected Serengeti wilderness. Their Wildlife Wellbeing program aims to treat as many animals with human-induced injuries as possible.
