DISCOVERY CHANNEL PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS

(Los Angeles, CA) Discovery Channel’s summer schedule is jam-packed with a wide variety of both fan favorites and brand new faces!  Chock-full of programs that give audiences an inside look at the people, places and things that shape our world, this year’s summer slate features everything from naked survivalists and personal trainers to legend hunters and airplane heists.  And of course, lots and lots of sharks. Below you’ll find a selection of key show highlights and air dates.

Each week on NAKED AND AFRAID, a new pair of complete and total strangers – one man and one woman – will find themselves stranded in and exposed to one of the world’s most extreme environments.  The duo – both survivalists with their own expertise – will be dropped with no food, no water…and no clothes.  The goal: survive for 21 days with nothing but one personal item each.  The prize: the fact that they survived for 21 days with nothing but one personal item each. The hit series returned on Sunday, June 22 at 10PM ET/PT.

Welcome to the Barwis Methods Training Center, where Mike Barwis and his staff of dedicated, blue collar trainers take on everyone from NFL players to Wild West bull riders to Olympians. When Barwis isn’t training professional athletes, he spends most of his time focused on his true passion: working with people who have neurological disorders and getting them to walk again. Barwis has advanced degrees in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training, has trained over 500 Olympic and professional athletes in over 40 sporting events, and served over 10 years as head strength and conditioning coach at West Virginia University and the University of Michigan. This season on AMERICAN MUSCLE, premiering Wednesday, July 9 at 9PM ET/PT, in addition to working with paraplegics, Barwis and his team of trainers will be working with several professional athletes at the top of their respective fields, including: Richard Sherman (Seattle Seahawks), Nick Swisher (Cleveland Indians), Rashad Evans (UFC), Ndamukong Suh (Detroit Lions), DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers), Pierre Garcon (Washington Redskins), Shawne Merriman (former NFL player), Baron Davis (former NBA player) and many more. Starting Thursday, July 10 at 9PM ET/PT, Discovery’s hit series MYTHBUSTERS celebrates 11 years on the air with all new episodes. MYTHBUSTERS, which kicked off on Discovery Channel in 2003, is hosted by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, along with Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara. Motor mastermind Richard Rawlings and mechanical prodigy Aaron Kaufman are back searching for forgotten and neglected vintage cars on Discovery Channel’s FAST N’ LOUD. Most assume these old classics are rust buckets – but to this crew, they’re potential goldmines. Richard and Aaron need big projects and, more importantly, big profits to keep the doors open at Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas, TX. While Richard has the eye for spotting that rare find, Aaron is the master mechanic who decides if these relics are too far gone or prime for a Gas Monkey overhaul. Together, this dynamic duo travels the back roads scouring barns, swap meets and open fields in search of these rare rides.
