Discovery Communications has promoted Savalle Sims to the role of General Counsel. She will lead Discovery’s global legal teams, managing lawyers and all legal issues on behalf of the company in nearly 20 worldwide offices. Most recently Deputy General Counsel, Sims will continue to report to Bruce Campbell, Chief Development, Distribution and Legal Officer for Discovery Communications.
“Savalle is a strong leader, with an incredible legal mind and strategic approach that has served Discovery exceptionally well,” said Campbell. “She is the ideal choice to manage Discovery’s high-functioning legal team supporting our complex global business.”
As Deputy General Counsel, Sims managed Discovery’s Litigation and Trademark legal teams, handling all legal efforts around Discovery’s intellectual property, including trademark, patent and copyright portfolios. Prior to that, Sims was Senior Vice President of Litigation and Intellectual Property for Discovery.
Before joining Discovery in 2011, Sims was a partner in the commercial litigation department at Arent Fox, LLP, in Washington, D.C. In this role, she spent more than 10 years working on a broad range of complex commercial litigation and intellectual property matters, including several engagements with Discovery.
Sims holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University and Juris Doctorate from University of Notre Dame Law School. She is based at Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, MD.
Discovery’s Board of Directors is expected to formally approve Sims’ appointment as an executive officer in May.
