One of the most experienced and recognized leaders in the media industry, Katarzyna Kieli was listed amongst Forbes Women’s 100 Women of the Year in 2020. As president and managing director of Discovery EMEA, she heads up the company’s business in 140 markets, including UK, Poland, France, Germany, Benelux, Italy, Spain and Nordics. With a total of more than one billion viewers the EMEA region represents Discovery’s largest international operation. Kieli is responsible for the strategic and commercial development of these markets and manages a portfolio of 50 channel brands as well as an increasing suite of direct-to-consumer products and services.

Katarzyna Kieli joined Discovery and founded the Polish office in 2000. Her team, composed of two members at the time, today consists of over 4,200 people in Poland alone, and Warsaw has grown into one of the most important Discovery locations in Europe and in the world. In her previous role as President and Managing Director, CEEMEA (Central Europe, Middle East and Africa), she transformed the Discovery business in the region from a basic channel distribution operation into a thriving, locally relevant organization, offering pay TV, free to air and digital products.

Kieli has successfully led many mergers and acquisitions, including the acquisition of Dubai-based media company Takhayal Entertainment and the Fatafeat brands in 2012, and Metro, a publicly available (FTA) channel in Poland which was fully acquired from Agora in 2017. She also successfully oversaw the integration of Eurosport 1 & 2, the Eurosport Player sports streaming service and digital products across the region following Discovery Communications acquisition of Eurosport in 2015. In 2018, Kieli spearheaded the integration with Scripps Networks Interactive in Europe including taking over direct leadership over TVN, #1 broadcaster in Poland and single biggest international market for Discovery. One of the last transactions she oversaw was the creation of a joint venture (JV) with ProSiebenSat 1 in Germany.

Following Discovery’s acquisition of the exclusive multi-platform media rights for the Olympic Games in Europe from 2018-2024, she has led the company’s commercial and all-screen audience preparations for Eurosport’s first summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Today, she and her team are focused on optimizing Discovery’s linear television business, as well as developing new forms of audience reach.

Kieli is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. She also has an MBA and degree from the University of Calgary and a degree from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana (U.S.) where she lectured for some time.
