MythBusters Goes Out with a Bang

We’ve been separating fact from fiction with MythBusters for as long as we can remember, but one thing we know for sure is that Discovery’s longest-running series is signing off with a bang. 248 episodes, 2950 experiments, 1050 myths and 900 explosions later, MythBusters will explode onto screens for one last exhilarating time on Saturday, March 5 at 8:00pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Whether you couldn’t get enough of the…

Science Prepares a Feast of Premieres Thanksgiving Week

Normally we don’t like to encourage gluttony; however, in the case of Science Channel, you can never have enough — especially with a week full of premieres and time off from work (hopefully) for the Thanksgiving holiday. For starters, tune in tonight, November 20, at 8pm ET/PT for the Science network debut of Fringe — J.J. Abrams’ science-fact thriller that blurs the line between the possible and impossible. Dr. Michio…

Discovery Communications Prepares for Comic-Con

Comic-Con. The event conjures up different images and feelings depending on where your fandom lies. At Discovery Communications, teams are prepping to bring a variety of panels and events to the annual San Diego event this year — from the MythBusters (Comic-Con royalty) to a slew of Science goodness, including a special 10th anniversary Firefly reunion. While I’ve helped from afar, this year will mark my first year attending and…

‘MythBusters’ Charms Chicago, Awaits Museum Goers

Today’s guest blog post is from David Tra, Social Media Specialist for Discovery Channel and our resident MythBusters expert. Last week, I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere of new MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The exhibit brings together one of my favorite shows, MythBusters, with an experience that allows guests to interact and experiment with myths from the show.…

Get Ready to Hurl with Discovery & Science on Thanksgiving

Pumpkins become projectiles once again with the return of Punkin Chunkin, the annual special that has become a Thanksgiving tradition on Discovery Channel and Science. For the unfamiliar, Punkin Chunkin is a yearly extravaganza where teams (and more than 30,000 fans) gather in a Delaware cornfield to see whose homemade contraption can propel a pumpkin the farthest. This year’s event takes viewers behind the firing line, getting up close and…

New Episodes of MythBusters Return to Discovery Channel on Wednesday

They’ve tackled some crazy myths over the years (and nabbed three consecutive Emmy nominations) and tomorrow Discovery Channel‘s MythBusters will be back with more science and mayhem. Among the myths they will tackle this season: Are motorcycles better for the environment than cars? (This Wednesday’s episode, at 9pm ET/PT) Can you supersize a Newton’s Cradle to epic proportions? Can you use duct tape to fix a plane that has been…

Celebrate Memorial Day with the Mechanical Madness of Science’s ‘Killer Robots’

Science Channel often introduces us to science through luminaries like Professor Brian Cox or Dr. Michio Kaku…but, there’s also a more raw form — from the backyard physicists of Punkin Chunkin to the ambitious teams in the latest edition of Sci Sports: Killer Robots. After a day at the beach, BBQ or pool, what better way to cap off your Memorial Day than with physics gone made with the robot…

Discovery Supports Military Families Through White House Initiative

Yesterday, Discovery Communications announced that it will work with the White House to support military families through Discovery Education, TLC, Military Channel and Discovery’s social media division. The support, which will take place in schools, on-air and online, will generate awareness for returning troops and America’s military families as part of Joining Forces, a national initiative launched yesterday by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. In addition, MythBusters Jamie Hyneman…
